About

I’m an average suburban mother trying to get by while ravaged with guilt about my kids and the environment among other things. I live in  West Central Scotland in an affluent suburb of Glasgow (where we don’t fit in with the mercedes owning locals).

I’m obsessed with plants and gardening. My current garden is pretty small and in a chilly windy spot about 400 feet above sea level. Never mind the conditions, I still try to grow wildly unsuitable plants like sweetcorn, oleander (into it’s 3rd glorious year) and recently – pomegranate.

I’m making a collection of simple tasty recipes for myself as I love my grub, but don’t seem to find the time to make huge complicated dishes. Being wheat-free means that most pre-packaged food and ready meals are out the the question so I do try to prepare food from scratch. I’ve been on this diet as a way of coping with bowel disease for 20 years now but I do fall off the wagon sometimes, my worst temptations are garlic bread and Indian naan bread. This of course is extra difficult with two boys in the house (three if you count their father) as my kitchen is often full of cakes and biscuits but now I’m on weightwatchers so I don’t eat all that stuff. Not all the recipes here are wheat free but I will try to mark those which are.

I’m trying to be environmentally friendly: I recycle as much as I can, I compost everything and try to shop local. I live in an area where conspicuous consumption still rules but that means there are rich pickings at my local oxfam shop.

If you visit do please say hello, it’s a lonely planet!

  1. Well, I am saying hello, since your request was compelling. (*referring above to the last line in your about page, in case i have confused you). I chanced upon your blog by pushing the rightward pointing arrow at the corner of my own blog, out of curiousity for where it might have led me.

I am pleased to discover there are other slovenly housewives out and about with sluttish ways to brag of.

    :)

  5. Hi Jane,

Thanks so much for adding me to your blogroll! And so glad it brought me to your blog–sounds like we have lots of dietary patterns in common (I also fall off the wagon occasionally due to a tasty Naan!). Looking forward to browsing around your blog and recipes. :)
